RMRL OFFICERS FOR 2002

Your club officers for this year are (trumpet fanfare) the same as last year's! Glenn, WN0EHE, Ron, N0MQJ, and Joe, WT0C were reelected as president, vice president/secretary, and treasurer respectively at the club holiday dinner in December. Congratulations and thanks to them for volunteering to lead the club for another year.

HOLIDAY DINNER REPORT

The club's annual holiday dinner was held on December 12 at the Country Buffet restaurant in Englewood. Over 40 RMRL members and guests turned out to enjoy good food and holiday cheer. Glenn, WN0EHE reviewed club activities and accomplishments in 2001 and presented awards of appreciation for the many volunteers who continue to support our

organization: Ed, N0MHU; Joe, WT0C;, Ron, N0MQJ; Kent, N0PSR; Jim, W0LGF; Mike, KA6YFB; Bob, N0TI; Dave, WU0N; Bob, WB4ETT; Glenn, WN0EHE; Richard, WB5YOE, Jack, K0CO; Warren, N0FVG; Karl, K0ELE; Kerry, N0URK; and Bruce, KB0PHD. The attendees also enjoyed a videotape about Bob (W0WYX) and Margaret Swanlund, who lived atop Squaw Mountain and sponsored the 146.940 repeater for many years. Last but not least, there was a door prize drawing and several attendees left with nice early Christmas presents. If you weren't there you missed a great time!

BILL SHEFFIELD, KQ0J, SK

Bill Sheffield, KQ0J, a long time RMRL member, died February 11. Many of you remember Bill as being very active in the Colorado amateur radio scene, serving as both ARRL Colorado section manager and Rocky Mountain Division vice president for a number of years. Bill owned several small businesses and enjoyed golf and dirt bike racing as well as ham radio. We'll miss you, Bill!

ARRL MEMBERSHIPS

Last fall, the ARRL decided to revise its long-standing policy of paying affiliated clubs (like the RMRL) commissions for new and renewal memberships. Previous to the revision, the ARRL paid an affiliated club $5.00 for each new membership originated through the club, and $2.00 for each renewal. The new policy eliminates the renewal commission, but boosts the new membership commission to $15.00.

The ARRL section of the club membership form has been changed so it can be used for new ARRL memberships only (thanks, Mike!). If you are planning to join the ARRL and have either never been a member or have not been a member for two years or more, please join through the RMRL. It won't cost you anything additional and will earn the club the $15.00 commission. Please do not send ARRL renewals to the RMRL any longer, as there is now no benefit to the club for handling them.
